How To Beat The Abyss Watchers in Dark Souls 3

The Abyss Watchers in Dark Souls 3 are a mandatory boss fight where multiple Watchers spawn, making the battle challenging. Implementing a strategy can be tricky due to the need for dodging, blocking, and parrying attacks. However, there are strategies for both close and long-range combat that can help players overcome these challenges .

Melee Strategy #1: Parries, Ripostes, & Backstabs

The Abyss Watchers can be parried, riposted, and backstabbed, similar to fighting invaders or human enemies. To parry, time the attacks correctly, especially the offhand dagger attacks in the first phase, as they are easier to parry and less damaging if missed . In the second phase, parry the flaming Watcher's non-jumping or dash attacks, which are well-telegraphed.
For backstabs, bait the Watcher's combos by standing close. During the third attack of their combination, roll behind them, wait for the attack to hit the ground, and then use a light attack to backstab. This method also works in the second phase; be patient and get behind them during the last attack of their combo .

2.Melee Strategy #2: Stagger Them

The Abyss Watchers prioritize speed and evasion over defense, making them susceptible to being staggered by heavier weapons. Weapons like the Great Club and Exile Greatsword, found in Farron Keep, can interrupt their attacks.
The Great Club, a Great Hammer, is effective for dealing poise damage. Its hyper armor and Warcry weapon skill allow players to tank through lighter attacks and interrupt combos. Time attacks carefully to avoid missing, as the recovery time can leave you vulnerable .

3. Spell Strategy #1: Sorceries

The Abyss Watchers are weak to Lightning Damage, but without many early offensive miracles, casters should rely on other spells. Faster spells are more useful due to the Watchers' rapid movements.
The Farron Dart spell is fast and efficient for hit-and-run tactics against the main Watcher in phase one and the fire-buffed one in phase two. Great Soul Arrow can also be effective, dealing more damage when the Watcher is distracted by other spawned Watchers. Bring Ashen Estus Flasks to cast more spells .

4.Spell Strategy #2: Pyromancies

Despite the fire on the second phase Watcher's sword, he is not resistant to Fire damage. Use the basic Fireball spell, as it has a short casting time. Bait the Watchers in the first phase to attack each other, creating opportunities to cast Fireballs safely.
